ITINERARY

Day 1 - Friday, May 14

Meet at HHH airport at 5:00 PM
Depart Minneapolis with IcelandAir at 7:20 PM from HHH.

Day 2 - Saturday, May 15 D

Arrive Oslo 12:20, transfer directly to Drøbak approximately 1 hour from airport.

Drøbak has long been a favorite vacation spot for the Norwegians.  Many famous Norwegians over the years have spent time here including Knut Hamsun, Christian Krogh and Edward Munch.

The name Drøbak comes from the town’s location and means long hills. Drøbak today is considered "a pearl by the Oslofjord!"

The city has kept its old charm with narrow streets and lovely gardens around the old original homes. During the summers it is steaming with vacationers and the harbor is full of boats.

There will be time to walk around and stop in at "Julehuset" (The Christmas House).

Day 3 - Sunday, May 16 B, D

Guided tour of Drøbak and ferry to Oscarsborg with guided tour of the fort.
Wonderful little café on Oscarsborg for lunch or just ice cream.

Free afternoon and dinner at the hotel.

Day 4 - Monday, May 17 B, L, D

NORWAY'S CONSTITUTION DAY

8 AM Flag raising and gathering at the Bake Park in Drøbak

11 AM Traditional Children’s Parade with marching bands and lots of bunads (the traditional Norwegian attire).

Lunch cruise on "Jacobine" for about 1.5 hours along the coastline of Oslofjord. Eating peel-on shrimp and drinking white wine (a Norwegian Tradition).

At 5 PM all the citizens of Drøbak partake in a parade.

Day 5 - Tuesday, May 18 B

Full day in Oslo with tour by coach visiting the center of Oslo, the Vigeland Sculpture Park, the Holmenkollen Ski Jump with museum, the Vikingships and the Kon-Tiki Raft and Oslo’s brand new Opera house.

Bus and guide will pick you up in Drøbak.  Other options available if you have already been to Oslo.

Day 6 - Wednesday, May 19 B, D

We leave by plane from Gardermoen to Bodø. If the weather is good you can see a lot of Norway on the way up.

Bodø is the second largest city in Northern Norway and home to Saltstraumen the strongest maelstrom in the world. Every six hours, 400 mill m3 of water at speeds up to 20 knots rush through the 150 m wide and 3 km long sound connecting the Saltenfjord and the Skjerstadfjord.  Ferry to Moskenes Island in Lofoten.

We continue to Reine Rorbuer which is part of Historic Hotels in Europe.

Late dinner and then enjoy the evening. It is light almost all night!

Day 7 - Thursday, May 20 B, D

Hiking in the mountain with local guide. We take a boat a short ride and walk from this place.  Tour Eva Harr’s gallery. Free afternoon.

Day 8 - Friday, May 21 B, D

Day trip to Stamsund to see more of the Lofoten Islands and visit art galleries and see other interesting areas.

Many Norwegian painters and writers live and have lived in this community, including Knut Hamsun, who used the area as backdrop in many of his books.

This is a fishing paradise, so for those who want, we can fish and have it as dinner in the evening.

Day 9 - Saturday, May 22 B, D

Free day. Rent a boat for fishing, go for a walk or longer hike, rent a bike, stop in at the local store, visit with the locals, explore the hamlet of Reine or just enjoy the scenery and relax.

Farewell Dinner

Day 10 - Sunday, May 23 B

We travel by ferry from Moskenes to Bodø and then plane to Oslo Gardermoen airport.
Stay at hotel close to the airport.

Depart Oslo at 2:45 PM
Short stop on Iceland and arrive Minneapolis at 5:55 PM
